Madondo was recognized as one of CNN Heroes 2012 and was nominated for his work with KYP. In addition to academic support, KYP provides meals for children and support with school fees. In addition, KYP has made it possible for over 15 youth to get tertiary education.

The main focus of the KYP is its tutoring programme, which runs four days a week, providing tutoring for grade two to seven pupils, and uses professional teachers to help grade eight to twelve children with subjects like math and science.

"KYP’s mission is to eradicate the poverty of mind, body, and soul and to fight against the disadvantages imposed on the children of Kliptown, by providing educational support and after school activities".
With the CNN recognition came a $50,000 award which Thulani says he hopes to use to build a computer lab, provide school uniforms and buy a solar geyser to heat water in their kitchen.
