Featured video: 15 year old Sierra Leonean wows M.I.T.

15 year old engineering whiz, Kevin Doe lives in Sierra Leone where he uses spare parts found in trash cans to build transmitters, batteries and generators. Kevin uses the transmitter he built to broadcast a local radio show under the name "DJ Focus". Kelvin recently became the youngest person in history to be invited to the "Visiting Practitioner's Program" at MIT. This trip to MIT was also his first trip out of his hometown.

In this video account of Kevin's trip to the US, we get to see the incredible opportunities Kevin was exposed to such as being a practitioner at MIT's media lab.You also get to watch as Kevin deals with homesickness and shared his thoughts of the future.

Apart from Kevin, someone who stood out in this video was David Sengeh. David is a graduate student at the MIT media lab and the founder of Innovate Salone - a mentorship program for Sierra Leonan youth who need help developing their ideas. It was modelled after MIT's innovation competition with judges selecting eight finalists who receive $500 to continue development of their projects.

As a result of the viral video featuring Kevin, Innovate Salone has reached 50% of their 100k donation goal. David's hope is that with the help of Innovate, young people are able to develop their own solutions.
