Sometimes visiting a professor/TA during office hours can be really intimidating. More so especially when the instructor doesn't seem very friendly or approachable. Here are some tips that work for me:
-Find something you found interesting about the class and go and talk to him/her about it. You could also ask questions about the assigned readings.
-Ask questions about writing assignments, e.g. paper proposal, paper, reading reflection, etc. E.g. "I've been thinking about the topic and I just want to be sure I understand what you're looking for. How about XYZ?
-Ask about future course offerings in the department with the same professor if you really like them.

-Ask the instructor about their research interests
-Ask for a recommendation of an article or book that you could read as a follow-up to learn more. The professor will probably ask you what you find particularly interesting about the topic, so you need to be prepared to volunteer some information.

-For a conversation starter, you could ask the instructor what interested them about their field of study? Research projects? Mentor? etc.
-Talk to them about going to grad school
-Ask them about something they talked about in class, such as research trip, etc.
Hope this is helpful!
