Reminiscing Mondays: The amazingness of plaintain

plantain

Y'all know how much I love plantains! In case you missed it, here's a Reminiscing Monday post where I profess my love for plantain chips.

Plantains is so versatile. You can boil it, mash it, pound it, and you can eat it with almost everything. Plantain ain't junk either. It is packed with Vitamin A & C, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium and Beta-carotene which makes it quite a nutritious food.

Living in Botswana, the US and Canada, I always feel like they are mission out on the goodness of plantain because it is quite expensive over here and not too popular. This is definitely not the case in West Africa, the Caribbean and some parts of Asia >yay!< In Botswana, some people called plantains "fried bananas" which sounds totally gross and is not what plantain is.

Here are some of my favorite ways to eat plantains:

1. Boiled

2. Fried

3. Fried plantain with a salad and some fried chicken goodness

4. With scrambled eggs or an omelette

And last but not least, with some jollof (or coconut, or fried, or just plain rice & stew)

Literally starving right now so my mouth is watering so much talking about all this yummy food and having to post pictures *torture*
