What palm oil can do for you outside cooking


Palm oil is a huge Nigerian staple, used in numerous Nigerian dishes, and also used to make soaps, candles, margarine, etc. But do you know how beneficial palm oil is to your skin?


                                 


Palm oil is red due to a very high content of beta-carotene, 15 times what is present in carrots. Beta-carotenes are known to protect us from heart disease an cancer. Beta-carotenes also contain vitamin A that protects us from cataracts, arthritis, and Alzheimer's disease among others.

This oil is red due to its very high content of beta-carotene – the same agent that gives carrot its colour, and known to protect humans from many cancers and heart diseases.

Palm oil is the largest source of of tocotrienols. There are four tocotrienols, which are a super potent form of vitamin E, containing 60 times the antioxidant activity of ordinary vitamin E. Tocotrienols help in protecting the body against diseases like cancer, blood disorders,and help maintains good skin and fertility.

The combination of vitamin E, tocotrienols, carotenes, and other antioxidants makes palm oil a super antioxidant food.

On the skin, red palm oil offers a great solution to heal old scars from acne and stretch marks due to its high vitamin A and vitamin E content. Red palm oil is also unrefined, making its nutrient value higher.

Red palm oil has moisturizing properties. Those suffering from skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema will find relief with the application of red palm oil over the affected area.

How to:
-Mix equal amounts of shea butter, honey and coconut oil and apply as a face mask twice a week
-Rub red palm oil under the eyes and corners of the mouth before bed to fight wrinkles

Caution:
Any red palm oil will be slightly orange so watch out.
