Resort to prayer when all else fails according to Nigeria's President

According to Leadership Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan's exact words were ""What we are passing through as nation  can be overcome with prayers." President Jonathan made this statement during a visit from some of Nigeria's Muslim religious leaders to celebrate Eid-El-Fitr.  Don't you just love his blind optimism?

I believe in the power of prayer, but this comment just sounds lazy and is definitely not something the President of a country should have uttered. Even the Bible says in James 2:14-26 that "faith without works is dead". Isn't this verse so applicable to President Jonathan? So much faith, but we aren't seeing the works to back it up.

President Jonathan took the oath of office on 29 May 2011 and till date, here are some of his "achievements". I use the word "achievements" intentionally because nothing stands out to me, and his efforts are duties he is almost expected to carry out in his role as President.

- He has encouraged a multiparty democracy, as evidenced by 6 parties represented in state governorship (good on him!)
-Outlawed illegal police checkpoints in Nigeria (Wow, you don't say!)
-First Nigerian President to airlift Nigerians from trouble zones back home  (Any logical President would do this)
-First President to actively use social media (don't even get me started! Remember this?)
-Fixed the Benin-Ore road after 20 years
-Introduced a 35% female appointment ratio in government positions (gee thanks Jonathan!)

Like I said, nothing really stands out to me. I find it amusing that President Jonathan's achievements do not match the promises he made during his campaign. Here are some of them:
-Establish domestic airports in every state in Nigeria. Source

-Transform the agricultural sector and distribute one million metric tonnes of fertilizer. Source
The Growth Enhancement Support Scheme was established a little over a month ago and I find it hard to believe that one million metric tonnes of fertilizer has been distributed in this short time frame.

-Dredging of the River Niger.
In this June 5 article, Vanguard Nigeria reported that the second phase of the dredging process is yet to be completed.

-Dualize the Lokoja-Abuja road and the Enugu-Abakaliki Federal Highway
Nigeria's Minister of Works says the Lokoja-Abuja project will be completed in 2014. A rehabilitation of the Enugu-Abakaliki Federal Highways kicked off in February.

-Establish a federal university in Kebbi
It's 2012 and this promise is still yet to be fulfilled. The Federal Government of Nigeria recently allocated N31.5 billion to establish nine universities in the country but there's no word yet on when the said universities will open its doors.

With President Jonathan's track record, I guess it should not be shocking that he would make such a statement about prayer. We're still waiting for Goodluck Jonathan, the boy who grew up without shoes to go above and beyond in his role as President of Nigeria and make us proud.
