Pearlle Kpop Chat: Queen of Ambition review (ep 1 - 15)

I've been watching this drama on and off for about a month now. Where do I start? First of all, it has a lot of potential but it's not living up to it unfortunately. Here's the synopsis:

Joo Da Hae (Soo Ae) is the quintessential girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Growing up destitute, she develops the singular dream of becoming a trophy wife one day. But it’s not all fun and games when she sets off on a journey of conspiracy, greed and malice. Kwon Sang Woo stars as Ha Ryu, an innocent man who is so deeply in love with Da Hae that he’s willing to sacrifice everything — and commit the unfathomable.

Sounds exciting, right? Well the writers are really screwing this up and it's not even funny. The ridiculous plot centering around revenge is so childish and becoming really annoying. To start things off, here are a few typical Kdrama things Ha Ryu did for this evil bitch called Da Hae.

In addition to the typical cliche things, he paid for her bachelor's degree as well as her post-graduate in the USA while he stayed back in Korea to take care of their daughter. How did he get the money? By working as a stripper! By the way, Da Hae goes to school in the States because she's after a chaebol who she sees as her gateway to success. She starts dating him and they return to Korea together and she says to hell with her family and starts a new life. Did I mention that he also goes to jail for her? Yep, that happened!

Stuff happens and in their daughter dies under Da Hae's care. Also, turns out Ha Ryu has a twin brother who is a lawyer. Da Hae has him killed thinking it's Ha Ryu and in order to get revenge, Ha Ryu starts using his brother's identity.

That's where it's at (episode 15) and it's becoming really frustrating because I'm thinking of how ridiculously long it's taking Ha Ryu to get revenge.

Fashion
On to the fashion, here's what poor girl Da Hae's outfits looked like:

Her working class woman outfits:

Her 'I'm now with a chaebol' outfits:

WTF moment
There are many but this was one of my favorites: the scene where Da Hae gives Do Hoon's father his medicine and this is what it looks like candy!

Side note:
In case you were wondering how dramatic and fake kdramas are, here's a story for you. I was reading a news article about chaebols in 2013 and how they are being increasingly subject to economic regulations in S.Korea. The article mentioned the heir to the Samsung empire, the only son of the Samsung Chairman, Jay Y. Lee. I look up his name expecting to see some young, hot, dude. Here's what I see, enough said.

If it makes you feel any better, Siwon Choi is a chaebol and I'd choose him over Mr. Lee any day but good luck fighting the millions of ELFs around the world lol.

Look out for my next recap in a few days!
