Google announces Android 4.1 - Jelly Bean

Android 4.0, ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) was a major step-up for Android users from the previous versions.
I love ICS and wasn't expecting an upgrade any time soon.

Here's a video showing the new Jelly Bean features:

Anyways, here's some features of Android 4.1 - Jelly Bean.

- Project Butter: This is meant to make the Jelly Bean experience (naturally) “buttery smooth.

- Text input has also been improved, especially with regard to voice typing – users no longer need to have a network connection to make the feature work; the speech interpreter lives directly on the device.

- Also new is a heightened focus on accessibility. The newly-added Gesture Mode allows blind users to navigate their devices with gestures, and support for external braille devices has been added as well.

- The Camera app has also been updated with a much faster way to review photos. Ice Cream Sandwich users may be familiar with the stock Camera app’s quick-shooting capabilities, but now users can pinch to enter a film strip view for faster perusal.

- Android Beam has been bolstered with the ability to share video via NFC, as well as the ability to pair with an NFC-enabled Bluetooth device just by tapping it.

Notifications have also gotten a bit of a facelift — users can now return phone calls from within the notifications shade, as well as view multiple emails without having to jump into a separate app. Apps can also tap into the notification shade, and they can be expanded by dragging down with two fingers.

Search experience: Searching from the Google bar brings up handsome white cards that display information culled using the Knowledge Graph. Also on deck is improved voice search, and it seems awfully Siri-esque in how it can display and read out search results with a very natural sounding female voice. Swiping away those response “cards” reveals regular search results.

Instagram now available for Android

It's official.
Instagram is now available for the Android platform.
After years of waiting and countless apps developed to satisfy the Android users lust for the previously, solely iPhone OS app, Instagram is now available for android users.

It's no surprise that this happened only days after Instagram was acquired by facebook for $1 billion dollars; facebook has a huge android community and it only makes sense for them to make it available.

Mark Zuckerberg obviously thinks Instagram is worth a whole lot more than the half a billion dollars that Instagram was previously evaluated to be worth. I guess we'll see why soon enough.

Instagram is huge. Facebook is huge. This could just be another power-move by facebook to dominate the Social web.

I wonder what Google's response to this is going to be.

27 Million (Official Music Video): LZ7 & Matt Redman

I think I just found my new jam.
Who would have thought that Hillsong would be part of a rap record?
This song is ridiculous... in a good way.

It also supports the A21 Campaign and its mission to rescue the staggering 27 million people who are victims of sex-trafficking today, so buying it on Itunes is a good idea. :D

LZ7 and Matt Redman - 27 Million Official Video. Enjoy.

I love Blondes - Shouldn't I?

I love blondesSo... yeah, I like blondes.
"I love the way they walk".
"I love blonde hair".
 But why?
How do I justify liking blonde hair?

First question? Should I even like blondes?

Is me, a single dude, getting married to a blonde lady my destiny?

What is destiny? My definition is God's plan for my life.

To answer all those questions: I don't know.

The truth is that I do not really have a preference to what hair colour my future wife is going to have, or whether she's black, white or ...u get my point.

This post makes no sense; what is your point?!
My point is this: Making your choice on who to spend your future with based on hair colour, or deciding to ignore someone based on their hair colour is dumb... very unwise.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't have "preferences"; you should.
I'm not saying you shouldn't have standards; you should. I do.

I dream and pray for my wife as much as I can [whenever I remember]; I want a Proverbs 31 woman. That is my standard.

Evernote: A must have app for android and iPhone users

Evernote is (in my opinion) the single most important app for anyone who has a smartphone be it a droid, an iPhone, a blackberry or a... ;)

Evernote is a note-taking app that is a perfect replacement for your default "Memo" that comes with that high school and college students use for taking notes, group projects and collaborating with other students.

Here's the catch: There's none :D
Evernote is 100% free from the App store and the Android market (and the other places where "the others" get their apps from lol). It is also available for the Windows PC as a free download.

Features
- The best feature: You're notes are always in sync across all the devices you own. Yeah, you can create a note on your computer using evernote and it is automatically available online for all your devices (provides they are connected to the internet).
- Record audio and attach it to your notes.
- Save clips of websites
- Take notes anywhere
- Plan your next trip
- Learn more on https://www.evernote.com/evernote/

Remember, get Evernote for your smartphone. I really doubt you will regret it.

Facebook chat has gotten a major update

This is feature is a direct response from Facebook to Google's Google+.
A few weeks back, Google+ released a major feature that got me and a bunch of others excited; Google+ released a bunch of animated emoticons including Nyan Cat (a personal favorite of mine).

But this post has got nothing to do with Google+ ;)

Facebook just did something quite similar, but stepped it up a notch or two.

When next you are chatting on facebook with a friend, try this:

Type [[cocacola]] or [[fanta]]
After hitting enter (duh :D) fb chat displays a tiny emoticon of a fanta or cocacola bottle.

Okay, (yawn), boring, try this too:
In fb chat, find your friend's username (To do so, go to your friend's fb profile, then look in your address bar and copy either the numbers or username after facebook.com/) and type it inside some square brackets e.g. [[michaelsmith]].
Hopefully no one is lost, but here's a screenshot of what it looks like if done right.
Facebook Chat awesome update

Well that's it, go try it on your friends. ;)

Industries that will be looking for talent this 2012

2011 was a big year both positively and negatively for the Technology industry and 2012 is almost guaranteed to see as much if not more growth in the IT Industry. The growth and the level at which changes are occurring is greater than the supply of people to fill.

Here are five jobs that will have slots open for filling this year (after the image):

Software Engineers and Web Developers
The demand for top-tier engineering talent sharply outweighs the supply in almost every market especially in San Francisco, New York, and Boston. This is a major, major pain point and problem that almost every company is facing, regardless of the technology "stack" their engineers are working on.

Creative Design and User Experience
After engineers, the biggest challenge for companies is finding high-quality creative design and user-experience talent. Since almost every company is trying to create a highly compelling user experience that keeps people engaged with their product, it is tough to find people who have this type of experience (especially with mobile devices including tablets) and a demonstrated track record of success.

Product Management
It is always helpful for an early-stage company to hire someone who has very relevant and specific experience in your industry. This is especially true for product management, since the person in this role will interface with customers and define the product strategy and use cases. However, be prepared, as it will be a challenge to find people with experience in these high-growth industries: consumer web, e-commerce, mobile, software as a service, and cloud computing.

Marketing
I'm not talking about old-school marketing communications. Companies are looking for expert online marketers who know how to create a buzz of inbound marketing or viral traffic through the web, social media, and content discovery. Writing a good press release just doesn't cut it anymore, as everyone is looking for the savvy online marketing professional who understands how the current state of the web operates and knows how to make it work to their benefit.

Analytics
Since data is becoming more and more accessible, smart companies are increasingly making decisions driven by metrics. Analytics is becoming a central hub across companies where everything (web, marketing, sales, operations) is being measured and each decision is supported by data. Thus, we are seeing a high level of demand for analytics and business intelligence professionals who almost act like internal consultants; they help determine what should be measured and then build out the capability for a company.
